Take this from someone who has been through it.

I have spent more than 22 years working in mining, aggregate, and heavy equipment. In this kind of work, we understand that accidents can happen. But the truth is, none of us—no matter our age or occupation—is promised tomorrow.

I learned that at 27 years old.

After losing my significant other, I was still trying to understand the reality of what had happened when I had to go home to our four-year-old daughter and tell her that her mommy was not coming home.

Then came everything we had never discussed.

We had never sat down and talked about what the other person should do if something happened. I did not know where every important document was, what coverage she had, what accounts or benefits existed, or who needed to be contacted. I spent days searching, calling, and trying to piece everything together while also grieving and taking care of our daughter.

It could have been so much easier if we had taken the time to have the conversation nobody wants to have—the conversation we did not think we needed at 27 years old.

That is why I created If I Don’t Make It Home. These plans are not wills or legal documents. They are practical tools that help your family know where to begin if one day you cannot tell them yourself.
